Digital Art & Design

To-do-list:
  1. Remember the photos you took for the previous lesson? Choose two and edit them using the Lens Correction Tool. *
  2. Then, layout the orginal and the edited photos in A4 file format. (4 photos in a piece of A4) Please print it out.
  3. Plan your layout portfolio in any ways that you like (landscape, portrait view, font type, pattern design etc). This is also to be printed out in A4 size.
* Lens Correction Tool can be found under Fliter > Distort > Lens Correction Tool.

Things to be brought next lesson (4th Feb):
  • Your assignments (2 A4)

Drawing II

To-do-list:
  1. Finish the 6 fruits (using only one colour) on a A3 watercolour paper.
Things to be brought:
  • The usual painting materials + A2 watercolour paper (to be confirmed)

Regarding about the sketchbook, Jianyao has confirmed the total no. of sketches needed for this semester is 50 watercolour sketches only. They are all to be done on A4 watercolour paper.

2D Studio Art

To-do-list:
  1. Using the high contrast photo of yourself, draw a charcoal drawing in A2 size.
  2. Then using the same photo, continue to paint a A4/A3 portrait using acrylic.
Please note that the assignments (including A3 tryout and A2 actual painting piece) are supposed to be handed in on 3rd Feb.

Things to bring:
  • A colour landscape photo in A4 size
  • Your painting materials and A2 paper

Basic Anatomy & Figure Sketching

To-do-list:
  1. Draw a portrait of your classmate on a piece of A3 paper.
  2. Then using a sheet of A4/A3 tracing paper, draw out the skull of the figure.
  3. Using photos of your/others' expressions, create a drawing which at least contains 3 expressions. This is to be done on A3 drawing paper.
They are to be handed in during the next lesson, which is 3rd Feb, after Chinese New Year.


As for the sketchbook, the requirements are:
  • A total of 100 sketches
  • 50 life sketches or lines of the human form. You can head outdoors to a cafe or a park to observe passerbys to do them. When doing lines, please try to complete a posture within 5 mins before heading to a next one. These are to be done using pen.
  • 20 human sketches with lightning and shadows observed.
  • 30 free topic sketches, though it's advised that you stick to drawing abstract human form/design/realistic sketches.
Do note that the min. size required for the sketchbook is A5. So it's not necessary to get an A4 sketchbook, though it's all right if you already did so.


2D Studio Art

To-do-list:
  1. Complete the tryout exercise of 6 different painting styles, with each style duly noted on the drawing using the photo that you've brought today.
  2. Using the same photo, please choose a style and complete another painting in A2 size. It is okay to use more than one style for the final painting.
These 2 are to be handed in on next Wed (28th Jan). Please pass them to me during lesson time so I can bring the lot to Miguel's office.

P.S. Please note that there'll be a makeup lesson for Chinese New Year on this coming Wed (21th Jan), 9am - 12pm.

Things to be brought on 21th Jan:
  • A portrait photo of yourself in high contrast.
  • Charcoal
  • Usual painting materials + A2 paper

Drawing II

To-do-list:
  1. Paint an colour wheel, using the primary colours (red, blue and yellow) to mix the secondary and tertiary colours. The tonal values of the primary colours are also to be painted at the side. As to how to do the tonal values, you're supposed to keep adding water to it to get a lighter shade than before. Do it on a piece of cold-pressed A3 watercolour paper, preferably 250 gsm and above.
This is to be handed in the next lesson.

Things to be brought next week (22nd Jan):
  • Rounded-tip brushes
  • Watercolour paint set (min. 12 colours)
  • Palette
  • Water pail
  • Rags
  • A2 watercolour paper (at least 250 gsm and above, cold-pressed)
  • Masking Tape
  • Pencil (HB or B)

Digital Art & Design

To-do-list:
  1. Choose 4 different digital artworks (2 from Phase One or Phase Two, or one from each phase and 2 from Phase Three*). In less than 300 words, analyse and compare the 4 artworks in terms of style, colour, context and techiniques. Also compare it to your current/future art style and add in your own opinions regarding about these artworks.

    Essay is to be printed along with the 4 chosen photos and filed inside the file.

  2. Prepare 5 photos of your artworks (2D, 3D) in soft copy format. Please store them inside a thumbdrive and bring them during the next lesson. Note that you're supposed to take photos, not scan in the works and store them in .jpeg
Things to be brought next week (21th Jan):
  • The notes (Those who do not have a copy, please look for me)
  • A file with clear pockets to store in your homework, research, notes etc.
  • The photos mentioned above

*Phase One is known as the Pioneer era, Phase Two as the Paintbox Era and Phase Three as the Multimedia Era.

P.S. The artists from all 3 eras could be found at DAM.

P.P.S. The lesson next week has been rescheduled to Friday (23rd Jan), 9am-12pm. Note that it's only for this particular lesson. Lesson times will be reverted back to the usual.

  1. Prepare sketches and research for Ceramics project, 'Metamorphosis'. It's highly encouraged that you prepare this by next week in order not to fall behind the schedule set by Alvin.

  • Pottery Tools Set as shown by Alvin in class. They can be found in Artfriend for S$8.20 without discount.
  • Research/sketches for 'Metamorphosis'.

Basic Anatomy & Figure Sketching

To-do-list:
  1. Choose any 8 from the reference given and draw them on a piece of A3 paper.
  2. Take photos of various face parts (e.g. mouth, ear, nose, eye) and print them out. Then paste them onto a piece of a A3 paper and sketch them outin any style that you prefer.
Assignments are due on the next lesson.

Things to be brought next week (19th Jan):
  • Photos of your own expression
  • A A3 sketchbook or A3 paper in a file for the various assignments

2D Studio Art

To-do-list:
  1. Take a photo of a close-up, preferably zoomed in till details are blurred and only colours are distinguishable. Print it out in A4 size.
